Review of material
After sending a manuscript to the journal it is checked for conformity with technical requirements. Successfully passed manuscripts are sent to the Chief Editor which evaluates whether the content fits to the scope and aims of the journal. Approved manuscripts at this stage begin a process of peer-review as Chief Editor assigns a member of the Editorial Board, who became Academic Editor of the manuscript.
Academic Editors make a decision of acceptance or rejection of the manuscript after at least 2 independent reviews from an experts in the field. The process of peer-review is single-blinded (the authors do not know who are the reviewers, but the reviewers know who are the authors). Reviewers must perform a thorough and objective analysis and make a recommendation regarding the decision to publish, which could be:
- Reject – the manuscript is sent back to the authors with a rejection to publish;
- Major Revision – the manuscript is sent back for editing due to significant inaccuracy, misconception, omissions or questions raised;
- Minor Revision – the manuscript is sent back for editing due to minor discrepancies or insignificant queries;
- Accept – the manuscript could be accepted for publication without revision of the scientific content.
The correspondent recommendation must be motivated with detailed explanation and in accordance with the publishing criteria of the journal. Academic Editor make a decision using the above scale. ‘Reject’ and ‘Accept’ decisions are final. ‘Revision’ decisions are transitional and after one or more revisions (authors must send the revised manuscript within 30 days after the decision), the Academic Editor must make a final decision about suitability for publication. Accepted manuscripts are published after technical and linguistic editing.

Appeal
In case of a rejection decision and disagreement of the authors with the comments of the Academic Editor, they could make an appeal with detailed explanation of the reasons and send it to the e-mail: torakalna.medicina@gmail.com. The appeal will be send to the Academic Editor who may change or confirm the decision based on the explanation in the appeal. If the rejection decision is confirmed, the Chief Editor assigns other member of the Editorial Board who should perform another peer-review process with all the data from the first peer-review being forwarded to the new Academic Editor. The decision of the second Academic Editor is final and is not subject to revision.
